My group, Tyler, Jason, and I, worked on this together. Jason came up with the idea for our antagonist to be Horseman and I came up with the setting and the protagonist (victim). Tyler came up with the idea for our story to mimic Psycho and Scream.

Movie Opener Brainstorming & Research

Rise:  I liked how personal the opening of this film was. The camera angles, lighting, and introductory music made this contemporary film more relatable to a younger audience. However, the story line was not very evident or clear to me as a viewer. However, the shots were well used especially the last up-close shot to create suspense.  Dear Lover:  The Dear Lover intro followed its theme very well regarding its setting, mood, and message. I personally would not include the interview-like aspect because it simply takes away from the storyline. Although it was a good movie opener, there is not much content me and my group can pull from this opener alone.  Dare To Thrill: I really liked the camera work and the use of music that the opening used. Opening to Joker How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?  There are only a few titles during the opening of the film. They emulate older films with the "old-timey" music to accommodate it. The ending of the title sequence ends with a giant "Joker" text that flashes onto and covers the entire screen.  What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  The images prioritized in the opening sequence are his makeup, and his tears that fall from his painfully forced smile.  What connotations do the images carry?  The connotations that are carried with these images are that even beneath a smile, we find that this character is severally  despaired and certainly tragic, to the point where the smile is off-putting and very disturbing.  How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?  The genre is reinforced by the symbolic frown of a clown. This symbol is typically used to describe a masked s...

Film Opening Research #1 - Movie Title

Opening to Star Wars:  A New Hope How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?  The famous title sequence of Star Wars includes the name of the movie and the background of where the story begins. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  The images prioritized were the spacey background and the text that flew over it.  What connotations do the images carry?  The viewer sees the spacey backdrop behind the text which signifies the setting is in space. Along with this and the triumphant music, it gives the connotation of adventure and fantasy.  How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?  Genre is reinforced by the beginning battle and sense of urgency from the soldiers on the ship. This is where we get introduced to our main characters. Leia gives R2D2 the message that contains the blueprints to the Death Star which sets the genre of adventure into motion.  How does the film es...
